Historian of European diplomacy and expert on modern Germany. Craig was educated at Princeton University, receiving his Ph.D. in 1941. He was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford in 1938. During World War II he worked in Washington for the Office of Strategic Services and the Dept. of State before joining the U.S. Marine Corps.
